Now, users can utilize Apple Intelligence (AI for Apple) to improve their writing, condense mail, messages, and updates. They can enjoy a more competent and natural-feeling Siri, use Clean Up to eliminate distracting items from photos and more.
A Personal AI For Apple Launched
Apple today introduced “Apple Intelligence”, an advanced personal intelligence system. It is now available through update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Powered by Apple silicon, Apple Artificial Intelligence is designed to understand and generate language and images. It can also streamline actions across apps, and leverage personalized context to make everyday tasks easier—all while setting a new benchmark for privacy in AI for Apple. This release marks the launch of the initial suite of Apple AI features, with many more planned for future updates.
Next-Gen Apple AI Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac
An intuitive and private experience is made possible by this technology. It relies on years of AI for Apple and algorithmic breakthroughs to create an intimate intelligence system deeply embedded.
Apple Artificial Intelligence embodies Apple’s unique approach to generative AI. And we are thrilled about the potential it holds for enriching our users’ lives.
Among the new capabilities are enhanced ‘Writing Tools’ that help refine written content. ‘Summarized Notifications’ that prioritize what matters most. And also a powerful search feature that can locate nearly anything within photos or videos simply by describing it.
Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, stated about Apple AI. He said that these additions further increase the usefulness and versatility of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The foundation of Apple Intelligence is secrecy, which is achieved through the use of on-device computing. It is combined with Private Cloud Compute, a revolutionary method that extends iPhone security. The first suite of Apple AI features is now available, with many more updates on the horizon.
Apple Artificial Intelligence Writing Tools
Apple’s Writing Tools are available across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. It help users polish their writing with options for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text. These tools work seamlessly in apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and even in third-party apps.
With the Rewrite feature, users can choose from different phrasing options for what they’ve written and adjust the tone to match their purpose, whether it’s professional, concise, or friendly. The Proofread feature reviews grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, offering clear explanations for each suggestion so users can decide whether to accept them.
Summarizing lets users condense their text into a short paragraphs. With features like bullet points, a table, or a list, making it easy to digest key information.
AI vs Siri: Smoother, Smarter & More Integrated
When comparing AI vs Siri, with Apple’s intelligence, Siri is now more natural. It is also flexible, and deeply woven into the overall system experience. It has a fresh look, featuring an elegant glowing light that wraps around the screen edges on iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay when it’s active.
For convenient access while working, Mac users may position Siri wherever on their display. You can type to Siri anytime on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and switch seamlessly between typing and speaking to make daily tasks faster.
With improved language understanding, Siri can keep up even if you pause or stumble over words. And it remembers the context from one request to the next. Plus, with an extensive knowledge of Apple products, Siri can now answer thousands of questions about features and settings. Whether you want to know how to take a screen recording or share a Wi-Fi password, Siri has you covered.
More Powerful Photos App
The Photos app is smarter than ever, offering powerful new Apple AI Features. With natural language search, you can find almost anything just by describing it, like “Maya skateboarding in a tie-dye shirt.” This feature even works with videos, allowing you to search for specific moments in a clip and jump straight to them.
Plus, smart suggestions help complete your searches quickly. The Clean Up tool lets you easily remove unwanted objects or people from photos, keeping your images true to how you wanted to capture them. The Memories feature now lets you create custom movies just by typing a description.
Using advanced language and image understanding, Apple Intelligence will select your best photos and videos, build a storyline with chapters based on the themes in your images, and craft a movie with a clear narrative flow.
Priority Messages, Smart Reply & Focus Mode
Staying on top of emails is now simpler than ever. With Priority Messages in the Mail app, urgent emails—like a same-day lunch invite or a boarding pass—show up right at the top of your inbox.
Instead of opening every message, you can now see email summaries at a glance. For long threads, just tap or click “Summarize” to catch the key details. Plus, Smart Reply suggests quick responses and highlights any questions in the email to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Apple Intelligence also makes it easier to stay focused with new notification summaries. Now you can quickly scan important details for long or grouped notifications on your Lock Screen—perfect for keeping track when a group chat gets busy. The new “Reduce Interruptions” Focus mode shows only the notifications that need immediate attention.
You may now capture, write down, and describe audio in the Notes and Phone applications. Start recording during a call in the Phone app, and all participants get a notification. After the call, Apple Artificial Intelligence creates a summary to help you remember the key points.
New Features Yet to Come
In December, Apple is launching new features in Apple Intelligence to help users express themselves visually and creatively. With these updates, users will be able to create unique, personalized Genmoji by simply typing a description or using a photo of a friend or family member.
Image Playground will make it easy to design fun images in seconds, while Image Wand will transform rough sketches into polished visuals, making notes more engaging. By circling a space, users can also let Image Wand create an image that matches the surrounding context.
Writing Tools will also become more powerful, enabling users to make specific changes to their text with ease. For example, users can rewrite a dinner party invite as a poem or add dynamic language to their résumé.
Additionally, they’ll be able to tap into ChatGPT’s broad knowledge directly within Writing Tools and Siri, gaining access to its image and document understanding without switching between apps. More capabilities will continue rolling out in the months ahead.
What’s More to Come In December?
In December, Apple will introduce a new visual intelligence experience on the iPhone 16 lineup, enhancing AI for Apple with the new Camera Control feature. Users can instantly learn about objects and places in view.
For example, by simply pointing their camera at a restaurant, users will be able to pull up detailed information and even translate text between languages.
Camera Control will also connect to specialized third-party tools, allowing users to quickly check Google to find where an item is sold or use ChatGPT for problem-solving help. Users have full control over when these tools are used and what information is shared.
In the coming months, Priority Notifications will highlight what matters most, and Siri will become smarter and more personalized, drawing on each user’s unique context for tailored suggestions.
If we talk about AI vs Siri, then Siri with the help of AI will also gain the ability to respond with onscreen awareness and perform hundreds of new actions across both Apple and third-party apps.
