As the 47th president of the United States (US President 2024), Donald Trump has been chosen to retake the White House. At dawn on Wednesday, the AP news agency called the vote for the Republican candidate.

Although the world has congratulated him on his triumph, it is probable to further muddy an already unstable geopolitical landscape.

Trump Selected as US President 2024 Amidst Controversy

Donald Trump secured the White House on Tuesday after winning crucial victories over US Presidential Candidates 2024. Trump won in Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, pushing him past the needed 270 Electoral College votes.

With these wins, he now holds 277 electoral votes, compared to one of the other top US Presidential Candidates 2024, Harris’s 224. Although polls had forecasted a closer race, Trump’s unexpected comeback seems to have been driven by widespread frustration and his refusal to accept his 2020 defeat.

The refusal led to a violent uprising at the U.S. Capitol. Trump was convicted on felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.

Despite these setbacks, his campaign gained momentum by fueling anger against political opponents, immigrants, and minorities—tapping into deep frustrations among voters in a sharply divided nation. Declaring victory to his supporters, Trump stated that he had won “an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

Trump As Next US President Reflects FrustrationsUS President 2024

Scott Lucas, a professor of international politics at the University of Dublin, explained to Al Jazeera that Trump’s win reflected long-standing frustrations within the American public.

“For years, there has been bitterness and animosity in the United States. It began after 9/11, grew during the 2008 financial crisis, and was evident in 2016 when Trump first tapped into it. He did it again this time because our political system is broken,” Lucas said. A major campaign focus was on economic issues, especially inflation, which many feel has worsened under President Joe Biden.

Resistance to the United States’ backing of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia was also stoked by this economic worry. At the same time, Muslim and liberal voters are angry over the lack of U.S. action to control Israel’s wars in Gaza and Lebanon.

Trump’s Bold Global Promises As Presidential Candidate 2024 USA

Complex global issues will challenge Trump, who often claims he can solve them quickly. He has vowed to end the Ukraine war in a day, raising concerns in Kyiv about potential pressure to concede territory to Russia. NATO allies worry he may weaken the alliance’s mutual defense commitments.

Trump is also a strong backer of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and has promised to end the conflict with Hamas in Gaza within hours.

Netanyahu welcomed Trump’s win, saying it signals a “new beginning” for U.S.-Israel relations and a strong alliance. Israel also hopes Trump will reinforce his tough stance on Iran. Meanwhile, China anticipates a more confrontational approach from Trump, who is likely to revive nationalist trade policies, unsettling both allies and rivals.

Trump’s Personal Agenda Over National Interests

At home, Trump’s supporters expect him to prioritize the welfare of U.S. citizens and fulfill his promises to reshape nearly every part of the American government. His plans include launching the largest deportation effort in U.S. history and using the Department of Justice to target his opponents.

This approach, according to Lucas, means that both Americans and the world are entering a more dangerous time. Instead of a coherent U.S. policy aimed at national interests, the agenda would largely serve Trump’s personal goals.
